Peddlers - Transient Merchant Permit

Peddlers and Transient Merchants require a permit from the city. There are certain exemptions for a peddlers permit for non-profits and limited types of sales. The city does not endorse any products or services being sold by issuing this permit. For the related city code, please see ARTICLE IV. - PEDDLERS AND TRANSIENT MERCHANTS

Solicitor is defined as any person who, for solely commercial sales purposes, goes door to door, street to street, or place to place, to obtain or attempt to obtain orders for goods, wares, merchandise, or services as shown or described by sample, catalog, or some other form, for which delivery or performance will occur at a later time. Solicitors do not require a permit.

The permit application form is available at City Hall and online below. To apply for a permit, submit a complete permit application to city hall in person. Only in person applications are accepted. A driver's license or other photo ID is required. Payment of the permit fee is required when issued (see city fee schedule).

A list of active Peddler/Transient Merchant permits issued by the city are listed here. All active solicitors/peddlers must carry a permit issued by the city.

To prevent solicitation, you may place a "Peddlers and Solicitors Prohibited" sign on or near the entrance of your home. If you experience a harassing salesperson or violation of a "Peddlers and Solicitors Prohibited" sign, please call the Wright County Sheriff's Office at 763-682-1162 immediately after the person leaves, so WCSO can respond before the solicitor/peddler moves out of the area. You may also submit a Citizen Concern form (PDF) to city hall regarding the incident.
